World AIDS Day CopyWest Africa AIDS Foundation (WAAF) joined other stakeholders and non-governmental organization in the Western Region to commemorate the World AIDS Day celebration in the region.

The United Nations have designated the 1st December of each year as World AIDS Day and theme chosen for Ghana is ‘Fast Track: Meeting The Health Needs of Children Towards an HIV-Free Generation’.

The regional celebration to commemorate the day was held at the forecourt of the District Assembly at the Ahanta West District on the December 8, 2015.

Key partners in the region were requested to support the occasion by delivering solidarity messages, mount a stand for exhibition and provide condoms and lubricants, counseling and testing services and IE&C materials during the event.

Key note address which was read by a representative of the Regional Minister stated that, the government is doing everything within it capability to join hands with ministry of health and other agencies to ensure that HIV/AIDS becomes a thing of the pass.

He also said, Ghana is looking forward to have a generation of 0% new infections in years come. To anyone tested positive, there are antiretroviral drugs which are catered for by the government under NHIS.

In addition to his statement he made mention of stigmatization and discrimination of PLHIV’s, adding people will be bold enough to check their status when we do away with pointing hands and the likes to PLHIV’s.

He advised the youth to refrain from illicit sex and thanked the key partners for the great services provided on HIV/AIDS issues.

WAAFExhibitionpostatthe7thAfricaconferenceThe West Africa AIDS Foundation (WAAF), a non-governmental organisation on February 10-12,2016 conducted HIV Testing and Counseling (HTC) at the 7th Africa Conference on Sexual Health and Rights held at the Accra International Conference Center.

“Realizing Demographic Divided in Africa: the Critical Importance of Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights” was the theme chosen for the conference.

According to the Public Relations Officer, Miss Dorcas Aba Annan, the mission of the organisation is to help battle the spread of HIV/AIDS, TB as well as other communicable and non-communicable diseases and mitigate their effects on communities by providing care and support, developing and implementing pragmatic intervention programs.

“As part of our services to ensure that most people know their HIV status, we joined other Civil Society Organizations in the field of health to provide free HIV testing and counseling for more than 200 people who were present at the conference,” she added.

The conference also provided a platform where different organizations from African countries exhibited their great works in the field of adolescent sexual health and right education.

At the exhibition, West Africa AIDS Foundation showcased most of their products, shared information about the organisation to people, educated both old and young on some preventive measures, distributed condoms and also demonstrated to the adult on how to use the condom.

The 7th Africa conference on sexual health and rights brought together both leaders and young people from different African countries to discuss and address critical issues around young people’s sexual health and rights.
