The West Africa AIDS Foundation (WAAF) joined numerous health organisations in Accra to provide HIV Testing Services (HTS) on Ghana’s Independence Day which fell on the 6th March, 2016 at the Nationalism Park opposite the Independence Square, Accra. The HTS provided was part of the National Launch of the First 90 campaign which is under the 90-90-90 agenda by 2020 which was set by the UNAIDS. HIV Testing Services HIV testing services provided on Ghana’s Independence Day started exactly at 9:00 am at the Nationalism Park opposite the Independence square where the parade was held. West Africa AIDS Foundation team members set up their booth at the main entrance with the idea of mobilizing more people to test. After the independence parade, WAAF was able to mobilize and test more than 300 people and screened about 30 people on TB.

The members of the Ghana’s parliament select committee on health have undertaken to become advocates for TB Control in Ghana. As part of the Western Region’s strategies to see the D.I.C. functioning better, the staff at the Takoradi Office organized an outreach service for drivers at the Harbor Taxi Station in Takoradi. The education piece of the outreach focused on talking to the drivers about what it means to have a healthy blood pressure and healthy glucose levels. WAAF to start with last phase of Demand Creation for Discrimination Reporting System – Distribution of Anti Stigma Posters!
WAAF has recently partnered with the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to create demand and uptake of the web based discrimination reporting system. The project consisted of several parts. First WAAF and CHRAJ collaborated in order to develop a protocol to use to conduct trainings in five regions so that People Living with HIV (PLs), Members of the Key Population and healthcare providers could be trained in the area of fundamental human rights and also on the reporting system.
