Water and Sanitation
WAAF is soon to embark on a project entitled: Sustainable Global Development, a University-community partnership empowering individuals living with HIV/AIDS through micro-enterprise while also tackling a national problem of litter.
The Institute for Community Development: US & Abroad has formed a partnership with West African AIDS Foundation (WAAF) and Trashy Bags in Accra, Ghana.
The collaboration is part of the Smart Ghana Initiative, a program that employs teams
to repurpose plastic waste into marketable items. Planning and implementation will be
coordinated with American students interning at WAAF.
The partnership also includes McCombs School of Business MBA Global Connections students
to assist in expanding the enterprise and facilitating importation and marketing of all products
in the central Texas area.
WAAF also continues to educate basic hygiene at the community level focusing on proper
disposal of waste, frequent washing of hands and for areas with severe water shortage the
distribution of hand sanitizers to household owners.
