In 2016 WAAF, as one of the 13 Implementing Partners signed and started implementation work on the JSI managed USAID – Strengthening the Care Continuum project in Ghana.
On the Care Continuum, WAAF focuses on enhancing efforts across the entire HIV care cascade for MSMs in two selected districts in Ghana, New Juaben Municipal in eastern Region and Accra Metropolitan Assembly in Greater Accra Region. Through Peer Educators, MSMs at the community level receive education on HIV/STI preventive messages.
They receive referrals to selected friendly health personnel at facility level for HIV testing services and STI screening. When peers are in need of Enrolment into Care and initiation on Antiretroviral Therapy trained referral Chain Managers and project nuses will support and motivate the clients at the various ART facilities. PEs and RCMS also discuss topics on SGBV, gender and stigma at the community level, when need arise the peers will be referred for further services.
In September 2017 the first project year will come to an end, and WAAF can gladly share that we will continue the work into a second project year where we will continue reaching, screening and providing innovative services to close gaps in existing service delivery.
