Progress on Community Systems Strengthening

The Community System Strengthening (CSS) project is gradually consolidating gains made in enhancing access to and utilisation of TB/HIV health service delivery, particularly in the four (4) regions, thirty-five districts and over 40 ART Sites and numerous communities where implementation is taking place. The second quarter of 2017 saw numerous activities being carried out to ensure the attainment of project outcomes and indicators. Although there were challenges during implementation of activities within the quarter, a number of successes were recorded.

Key successes recorded during the second quarter of 2017 included outreaches in underserved communities in four regions reaching over 3900 persons with information on Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV, information on HIV Testing Services, Behaviour Change Communication (BCC), general information on HIV/AIDS, stigma and discrimination. One of the many significant success stories recorded during the quarter under review was linking a pregnant woman who had been Lost-To-Follow-Up (LTFU) back into care and treatment to enable reduce the chances of passing the virus unto her baby as well.

Models of Hope (MH) continue to play a critical role in augmenting the implementation of the first and second 90 (First 90 - 90% of all people living with HIV will know their HIV status; second 90 - 90% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection will receive sustained antiretroviral therapy, by 2020) of the ambitious universal 90:90:90 fast track targets to help end the AIDS epidemic.

Social Accountability Monitoring Committees continue to work at all levels (regional and national) to identify gaps in the HIV and TB health services delivery cascade and advocate for change and review of policies and systems to ensure quality services and commodity security.
